We recently lost our web developer, so our search has begun for a way to replace him. We are looking at outsourcing our web design with a couple of different web design companies. We also need to look a couple of Content Management Systems to get our site up and running on a platform where our ministries can edit much more quickly than relying solely on the IT team to get it done.
We are currently looking at three different CMS. Ektron (Commercial, pricey), Drupal, WEC (Web Empowered Church), Typo 3 (the base of WEC), are all on the list at the moment... Comment back if you have any other ideas I need to be looking at!

I just completed a site for our building project. I built the site on Drupal. I have been happy with it. It has some areas that need work, but what software doesn't. There are a few things that I look at that seem separate the products:
1. Theming - does it have to look like a CMS system?
2. If I need to do something custom how much work is it?
3. How well does it handle media? (Pictures, Videos, Podcasting)
Drupal was awesome on the first two items, but has some room to grow on the media handling. Good podcasting and RSS support, but a little weak on images and image galleries.
Create a list of what the sites needs to do and then get a demo of how each CMS would handle the specific features. Feature lists might say that the product does it, but it might not handle your specific needs. Scripted demos really get you to the bottom of what product is right.
